About the course
The Fire Basic Recruit Course is the foundational training program for newly appointed Bureau of Fire Protection personnel. It develops discipline, physical fitness, firefighting knowledge, emergency-response skills, and public-service values through classroom instruction and practical exercises.
Tri-Skill 1
Firefighting
Prepares recruits to prevent, control, and extinguish fires safely.
- Fire behavior, combustion, classes of fire, and extinguishing agents
- PPE, SCBA, hose handling, nozzles, ladders, tools, and apparatus familiarization
- Search and rescue, entry, ventilation, forcible entry, overhaul, and structural firefighting
- Incident command, fireground safety, prevention, inspection, and community fire-safety education
Tri-Skill 2
Emergency Medical Services
Equips recruits to provide immediate care before a patient reaches a hospital.
- Scene safety, patient assessment, CPR, airway management, and oxygen administration
- Bleeding control, shock management, bandaging, splinting, wound care, and burns
- Medical and trauma emergencies, heat-related emergencies, and spinal-motion restriction
- Patient lifting, transportation, triage, mass-casualty response, and ambulance endorsement
Tri-Skill 3
Basic Rope Rescue Technique
Develops fundamental rescue skills for elevated, confined, or difficult locations.
- Rope types, inspection, care, maintenance, knots, bends, hitches, and anchoring systems
- Rescue harnesses, belaying, safety lines, rappelling, and controlled descent
- Raising, lowering, mechanical-advantage systems, and patient packaging
- High-angle and low-angle rescue, team communication, and rescue-scene safety
Together, Firefighting, EMS, and BRRT form the FBRC tri-skills, supported by physical conditioning, drills, discipline, leadership development, lectures, and simulated emergency-response scenarios.
